KAUST Assumes Leadership of Kingdom’s Ocean Research

The Kingdom’s marine science is being realigned to enhance long-term scientific impact. King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), a global leader in ocean research with a long-standing focus on the Red Sea, brings established scientific leadership, world-class infrastructure, and deep expertise to this national initiative.

As part of this realignment, OceanQuest will discontinue its operations and be consolidated into KAUST. While deep-sea research will no longer be a primary focus, marine science, with continued emphasis on the Red Sea, remains a core national priority through KAUST. This move reinforces KAUST’s role as the Kingdom’s central institution for advancing ocean science, supporting sustained national and international research and exploration.
